Lord Warden Farren Markelhay
Hereditary Lord Warden of the town of Fallcrest, retired adventurer, octogenarian enthusiast.
The proud owner of long greying locks and a grey facial hair to match, the Lord Warden of Fallcrest looks more like an absent-minded wizard than he does a member of the nobility. His robes are often old and tattered, and he does not carry himself the way you may expect nobility to do so. Farren is affable, warm, and open, and is often eager to reminisce about the good ol’ days with the adventurers he hires.
Lord Warden Farren Markelhay is the 13th hereditary lord of Fallcrest, which is a shame, since the title sounds so nifty and it loses a certain something when you find out there’s been more than one of them.
His lineage stretches back, unbroken, to Lady Aranda Markelhay, a heroine of the empire of Nerath, rumored to be instrumental in the establishment of the Empire. She acquired the charter to build a keep along the Nenitr river, and soon the town of Fallcrest sprung up around it. Her lineage was kept pure in the face the Bloodspear War and the Third Strife that followed, and ends at this moment, rather pleasantly, with Lord Farren.
As a young man he was keen on adventuring, and eventually joined a party to explore the ruins of the Nerathan Empire and reacquire the relics of his family and of Fallcrest. But eventually he felt the pull of his home and his familial duty, and so he reunited with his family and took up the reigns of the Lord Warden. His knowledge of the surrounding area and the old ruins of Fallcrest was instrumental in it’s recent growth, as well as securing the frontier town of Winterhaven.
His amicable nature makes him a beloved ruler, though his preference for history and adventuring, as well as perhaps his “common touch” make him a sub-par politician. It is perhaps for this reason that the Powers That Be directed the famous wizard Simon Magus to the area.
That or he was attracted to the mild climate.
